‘LEARNING THROUGH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & SPORT’

The aim of the PE department is to promote the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to highlight the benefits of physical activity on the body. We aim to empower students with the knowledge, values, skills and personal qualities to be confident and keen to take part in sport and physical activities. The PE department offers a wide range of sporting opportunities for all of our students where we embed our focus’ of the week including;

  • Health & fitness
  • Skill & techniques
  • Tactics
  • Knowledge application
  • Competition

We deliver high quality PE lessons and extra-curricular opportunities where our students’ health, social and cognitive development are enhanced and promoted.

We also firmly believe that competitive sport and ‘opportunities for ALL’ can co-exist in a busy school environment.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, students participate in PE activities including Netball, Football, Rugby, Fitness, Hockey, Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Cricket, Rounders, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Cross Country. As well as a number of ‘alternative sporting challenges’ as part of our ASC week at the end of each term.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, all students participate in one core PE lesson per week where they pursue activities that they have explored during KS3. Students also have the opportunity to attend a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the week. Additionally, students can also opt to study the BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Sport, Activity and Fitness as an option subject.

Key Stage 5

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport is offered in the Sixth Form and is the equivalent of one A Level. Students will complete four units during year 12 & 13. The course is assessed both internally and externally and opens up many career opportunities in the sports industry.
