If you are concerned that a child or young person is in an emergency situation you should contact the police urgently on 999.

If you wish to contact a member of staff at St Benedict’s to raise a concern or worry about your child’s safety or anybody else’s safety or wellbeing you can email: safeguarding@st-benedicts.cumbria.sch.uk

This email is checked on a daily basis during the holidays and someone will get back in touch with you within 24 hours. 

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility

If you have a specific concern about safeguarding, or a general question or query, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead: Sheena Kar or in her absence the Deputy Safeguarding Leads: Sue Savage who is appropriately trained.

Things we do to safeguard children in our school: 

  • Secure site during the school day
  • Signing in/out for all visitors
  • Visitors to wear a visitor’s badge on site and are asked to sign our Safety Guidance
  • All staff have current DBS checks, which are updated regularly in line with School Policy
  • The School has adopted the Safer Recruitment principles
  • Every interview panel has a member trained in Safer Recruitment
  • References for new staff are sought and validated prior to appointment
  • Partner agencies provide written assurance that their staff have undergone DBS checks
  • Professional colleagues who work in our School have DBS checks
  • All staff, when they enter St Benedict’s,  complete a Level 1 e-learning course in Safeguarding, or join the whole school Safeguarding training cycle
  • Drop-in support is provided from outside agencies and other healthcare professionals
  • The safeguarding team all have Level 3 qualifications and meet weekly
