Headteacher’s Welcome

As Headteacher of St Benedict’s Catholic High School, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website which I hope you will find informative and will give you a flavour of life here at the school.

As a Catholic school, Christ is at the centre of everything we do.  Our values, including dignity, humility, diligence, truthfulness, stewardship, and forgiveness are rooted in our Catholic faith.  We also recognise that our pupils need to develop resilience, responsibility, flexibility, and a willingness to operate as part of a team.

We pride ourselves on making a big difference to young people’s lives.  Everything we do, we do with our pupils at the heart of it.  Our mission is simple; to ensure that every one of our pupils leaves us equipped with the necessary skills, qualifications, and mind-set to take the next steps in leading a deeply rewarding life (click here to read our full Mission Statement)

We endeavour to nurture the caring, trusting, and positive relationships between pupils, staff, parents and carers and we make a promise to all pupils that they will be safe and happy here.

The strength of our community lies in the dedication of our staff, governors and leaders, who work together to model Christ’s love through service, integrity and compassion. As a Benedictine-centred community, we walk together in faith, recognising Christ in one another and encouraging every student to lead with hope, courage and purpose.

We are unapologetically ambitious for our students, for our staff and for our community. Our goal is simple and profound: to be the finest school in Cumbria. Not for prestige, but so that every child entrusted to our care can achieve their very best in a flourishing environment shaped by high expectations, care for the individual and a deep commitment to the common good. We believe education is about much more than academic success; it is about developing the whole person and enabling each student to discover and fulfil their God-given potential.

St Benedict’s is a happy, thriving, over-subscribed school serving the Parishes of St Begh’s and St Benedict’s Whitehaven, St Joseph’ Frizington, St Mary’s Kells, St Mary’s Egremont and St Mary’s Cleator.

We welcome visitors at any time, but an appointment helps to ensure your time is spent well.  If you are interested in coming and having a look around, please contact the school via Mrs Taylor on admin@st-benedicts.cumbria.sch.uk
