Letter from Mrs Jackson – 11th May 2020

Dear Parents/ Carers

I would very much like to thank you for all your hard work with home learning. I am deliberately using the term home learning rather than home schooling. We know your home is not a school and we know most parents are not trained teachers. We also know that lots of people are juggling many issues at home.

We would like to reassure you, that all we expect, is that you do your best for your child. The second thing that we would ask is, if you are struggling with home learning, then please contact us. Teachers are keen to help in any way that they can.

We feel that the amount of work we have set is appropriate in an ideal world, and know that many of you are coping with this. We also know that many of us do not live in an ideal world, but are trying very hard.

For us as a school, the one thing that is of real concern, is that there are some pupils who are doing no work whatsoever. This may lead to them falling behind their peers and may contribute to mental health issues in the long term. It is important that pupils take part in daily physical exercise, but some daily mental exercise is just as important.

Year 10 and Year 12 pupils are also of concern. We do not know how the exam system will look next year, but we have to assume that these pupils will be taking public examinations in 12 months’ time. With this in mind, they do need to engage in some level of work, and we will be contacting you to see if we can help should this not be the case.

We are contactable through MILK, email and through the chat facility in Microsoft Teams

If you wish to contact us:

We miss all of the pupils and cannot wait to be safely back to normal. In the meantime, thank you so much for all you are trying to do. We know this is not easy, but we can support you.

Kindest regards

Emma Jackson
Head Teacher
