Our U13 Girls’ Football team began their County Cup campaign with an impressive 4–1 victory over Whitehaven Academy in the first round.
The team took a little while to find their footing, dominating early possession and creating numerous chances but struggling to convert them into goals. Their persistence paid off midway through the first half when Lucy H opened the scoring with a well-taken finish, followed soon after by a composed strike from Sadie G to double the lead before the break.
In the second half, St. Benedict’s truly hit their stride. Sadie H added a superb goal to extend the advantage, and Loe RE capped off a brilliant team performance with another well-placed finish. At the other end, Nancy H produced a series of outstanding saves to keep Whitehaven at bay. Despite her best efforts, the visitors managed to pull one back late on, leaving the final score at 4–1 to St. Benedict’s.
