Our top performing students were honoured at a special awards ceremony earlier this week.

The annual PE Awards Evening took part on Tuesday 1st July, with students attending with their parents and families to pick up their trophies and awards.

The ceremony highlighted talented students from all year groups, who have excelled in PE during the school year.

Awards handed out on the night included Sports Performers of the Year, Sporting Excellence Awards and Team of the Year.

Team of the Year was a tough decision again this year, due to the fact that St Benedict’s had three teams become County Champions throughout the season.  These were the Year 7 Girls Football team, the Year 10 Boys Rugby team, and the Year 11 Boys Rugby team.

The winners this year had to be the Year 11 Boys Rugby team, who as well as becoming County Champions, were also crowned National Champions – a first time for St Benedict’s!

Another notable winner was Tyce Walmsley who was awarded Sports Personality of the Year. This season Tyce has captained the Year 11 Rugby team scoring the winning point at The Nationals, and has also captained the England Community Lions team.

Mr Harrison, Head of PE commented:

“It has been another bumper year in sport for St Benedict’s, and it was lovely to celebrate the students and their achievements. Our students should be very proud of all of their accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing what the achieve next!”
