Our Science department are celebrating this week after a group of their Year 10 students were awarded their certificates from the UK Biology Challenge, including their first ever GOLD AWARD.

The competition consists of two, twenty-five-minute multiple choice papers which were taken online under staff supervised exam conditions.

Questions are set on the school curriculum, but the competition rewards those students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes, taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest, and are generally aware of our natural flora and fauna.

48,000 students world wide take part, with approximately 1400 students gaining a medal.

St Benedict’s had an impressive 32 students taking part and received their first ever GOLD award for Katy S.

Miss O’Fee, Biology teacher at St Benedict’s commented:

“I am extremely proud of all of our students who took part in the Biology challenge this year, and it was great to see so many achieving high marks. It is a fabulous achievement, and we are celebrating being awarded our first GOLD award for Katy S. Winning gold in this competition is a testament to her brilliance and passion for science!”
