This week, a group of our Year 9 students have begun their work with the Bridging Horizons project, through Cumbria Youth Alliance and Sir Robert McAlpine.
Bridging Horizons is a groundbreaking project designed to introduce young people to Civil Engineering and its various career opportunities.
Our students completed their very first training session by building a DaVinci bridge. As part of this project students learnt how to use pre manufactured parts to make bridge that requires no glue, no screws and no mechanical fixings of any kind.
Mr Stevenson said:
“Team work and critical thinking were clearly demonstrated by our students to build this bridge and students impressed all present with their resilience and “can do” attitude.”
The students will have regular sessions with the team, and will complete the whole project in June 2026.
