Year 11 Mock Interviews go virtual

188 of our Year 11 students have this week had the pleasure of taking part in their Mock Interviews – this time virtually!

Due to COVID-19 businesses were not able to visit school to take part in these interviews which are a really important learning experience for the students.

Students were set up online to take part in the interviews virtually with representatives from Jacobs, Orano, DRS, PPM. With it being virtual we have had volunteers from further afield also: HS2, Network Rail, London Underground!

Comments from the students included:

“It was a great the interviewer was nice made me feel calm and gave really helpful feedback.”

and:

“It was good to see what a real interview would look be like, and the feedback was great.”

The students have also recently been updating their CVs and have been talking to local employees to develop their interview skills for the future.

Mrs Muncaster, Head of Year 11 said:

“There was a great buzz amongst the Year 11’s and I was very proud of the way they articulated themselves and showed exceptional interpersonal skills.”

We had some great feedback from the businesses:

Miz Haque from Sellafield said:

“The day went really well, it was great to see their confidence be built through the interview.”

Emma Smith-Barnes from DRS commented:

“I think the students should each be very proud of themselves.”

Beth Nicholls from PPM praised our students:

“It can’t have been easy doing their first interviews virtually but they dealt with it really well.”

Mrs Kelso from St Benedict’s said:

“I am delighted that our pupils have had this chance to develop their interview skills. Using a virtual platform has made it almost as good as meeting in person. We very much appreciate the support of all the volunteers for making this a success.”

Thanks to Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC) and Vicky Ritson from Inspira who helped co-ordinate the volunteers.
