The week beginning on Monday, July the 3rd, our Year 10 and 12 students have all been out to local businesses and workplaces in order to help develop key skills for their own future career.

Many students went out-of-school for their work experience, working at former schools, care homes, gymnasiums. On the other hand, some students began work experience in St. Benedicts and are assisting staff within their own specific departments, including Arley Armfield from Year 12 who spend some time with our Marketing & Publicity Officer, and even wrote this article!

Two of our Sixth Formers, Joe Askew and Sam Bates, have been working with Nathan Askew in his gymnasium ’Empire Gym’ in Salterbeck, Workington. They have been helping on the till, with personal taking and even taking lead of their own fitness classes. Nathan currently has something called ”Project Unbeatable.” Nathan has been to local schools and businesses setting up workshops regarding mental health amongst young people and students.

Nathan has offered free memberships and really pushed the youth of Workington and more to look after themselves and their wellbeing. Students at the school should look up to inspirations like Nathan whilst on their work experience, bettering themselves and their skills in the workplace.
