At St Benedict’s you will have the opportunity to join a variety of teams and represent the school in different sports, including: Football, Rugby, Netball, Cricket and so much more.
You will be expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, team skills and dedication as you attend weekly practice after school and represent the school in both home and away games and competitions.
Whether you are already a skilled sportsperson or have a passion for a sport that you wish to develop and improve, the school sports teams welcome players with a wide range of abilities and talents. These fantastic opportunities wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the time and effort of the PE staff who support and challenge students to be the best that they can be.
Rock Challenge is a fantastic dance competition ran by Miss Scott that is always popular. Rehearsals run throughout the entire year so if it sounds like something for you, you must be dedicated and willing to give up time at lunch and after school. There is an audition process so that performers are fairly selected and students from every year group get involved. As well as positions as performers, you are able to help out as a member of the stage crew.
Rehearsals after school are often two hours long and involve a fun warm up routine and working through sections of the eight minute long performance. It is a great way to develop your performance skills, keep fit and make a lot of new friends.
Performances take place at Carlisle and, as we are a Premier team, also down in Whitby. Therefore there is an overnight trip to compete against some of the best schools in the country.
The Castlerigg residential is a great way to bond with your new friends and peers at St Benedict’s. The Castlerigg Manor is a large house with several bedrooms and activity rooms and the trip has a fun-packed timetable of activities. These include:
¨ Exploring the huge gardens
¨ Spending time reflecting in the chapel
¨ Exploring and shopping in Keswick town centre
¨ Fun group games and activities
¨ Watching videos
¨ Singing songs
¨ A leaving disco
It is a fantastic experience and a really great way to make extra friends and learn in a fun way.
