Sixth Form Student selected for Sporting Excellence Programme

A Sixth Form student from St Benedict’s is getting one step closer to his dreams of becoming a professional athlete after being selected to enrol on the Level 3 Pearson BTEC Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) qualification.

Aaron Holliday who is currently studying in Year 12, is a keen athlete and already competes at high levels including at the English Schools Championships and at the UK Athletics Games.

Aaron currently trains three times a week, twice at Carlisle, and once a week at Copeland. The DiSE qualification will span over two academic years, finishing in 2023, it will be completed around his current studies and training, and will involve regional workshops at Manchester and visits to Loughborough University every two months.

The DiSE qualification is designed to help support the leaner through this important period of their life by assisting with their nutritional and mental skills strategies, career considerations and lifestyle choices, as well as their technical, tactical and physical development.

This is a great achievement for Aaron as only those athletes from across the country that have the potential to progress to a higher level of elite performance are selected.

Aaron hopes to go on to study Sports Science at Loughborough University and become a professional athlete. We’d like to wish him all the best for his future!
