At St Benedict’s SEND intervention is informed by student progress data. Various interventions are used to support the needs of individual students. Interventions can include small group learning skills sessions. However, most intervention is delivered in subject areas as 1:1 intervention or targeted LSA support in classrooms.
The highest need group at St Benedict’s is autism. We provide a range of support for students with needs in this area including in class support; flexible working arrangements and ASC social skills development.
At St Benedict’s, we are delivering Fresh Start & fluency reading programmes to support children who struggle with reading.
The SEND Local Offer is a resource that all Local Authorities must have. It compiles local SEND information, provision, and resources in one place – ‘setting out in one place information about provision they expect to be available across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans,’ (SEND Code of Practice, 2015). Additional support for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND:
If parents and carers feel they would like some impartial information, advice or support on any issues relating to their children’s special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), they can contact the Cumberland SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) who can offer a range of support. We will help parents, carers and young people to prepare for meetings with schools or the local authority and practically support them at the meetings in an appropriate and impartial manner. We can also signpost to other relevant support networks.
