History Key Stage 5

Students’ skills of analysis and investigation are further developed in KS5. The examined units of the AQA A Level course addresses topics such as the Tudors and the USA between 1945 and 1980.

The students also complete a Non-Examined Assessment coursework that focuses on either Poverty or Public Health in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The NEA gives our students the opportunity to visit the Local Studies Archives to incorporate local examples and sources.

The variety of the A Level units consistently attracts impressive numbers of students – many of whom have gone on to study History at undergraduate level. We participate in the Holocaust Education Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz programme where two Sixth Formers attend seminars and visit Auschwitz-Birkenau in order to further develop their knowledge of the Holocaust.
