Welcome to our Easter Newsletter. Below you will find a letter from Mrs Jackson, plus a round up of the news highlight from this term, as well as upcoming dates for next term.

We hope you all have a restful and fun filled Easter Holidays!

As we approach the end of a term and continue our Lenten journey, I always enjoy reflecting on the many remarkable achievements of our students. This term is no exception. Our students make a positive contribution to our school and our community every day and they make me immensely proud.

We were of course stopped in our tracks by storm Eowyn, but as always, the school community pulled together, and it was such a relief to see the last of the scaffolding come now last week.

School continues to be a hive of activity. Whether it be the buzz of learning around the classrooms, our sporting success on the field, or the many and varied after school clubs we have, there appears to have been something for everyone this term. As always St Benedict’s has great sporting results, and for me there were two stand out performances. Year 11 Boys rugby making it through to the National Final and Year 7 Girls football becoming county champions. Our sports reputation marches on!

The development of the arts continues. We again gave an amazing performance at U Dance and our school band is now well established. Our end of term show case was a roaring success.

Other notable achievements included one of our Year 10 students, Casey representing us in a national cooking competition, Year 8 winning the Faraday Engineering Challenge and some Year 9 students taking part in the bridging horizons project. And there are so many other things I could mention, but it would fill the page.

What continues to impress me daily is the attitude of our students towards their studies and their excellent behaviour around school. Just this week I was looking at a list of the hundreds of students with zero behaviour points – a remarkable achievement. At this time of year, many staff are writing references for our Year 11 and 13 students, secondary education is the gateway to their future, and I am delighted that so many embrace all that St Benedict’s has to offer.

We move now into the summer term and will begin end of year exams for all students. This will be a chance for our students to show us what they can do. It will of course bring sadness too as we say goodbye to Years 11 and 13. We will also have the excitement of welcoming the new cohort of Year 7.

Easter will be a time of rest and recuperation (and revision for our older students). I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed when we return in April.

Wishing you all a happy and Holy Easter.

Mrs Emma Jackson
