Year 12 Biology students have recently been working on a sustainability project organised through the Centre for Leadership Performance.

The students have been developing ways to improve the school sustainability regarding plastic bottles.

They recently pitched their ideas to a panel from Sellafield to secure a further £1500 of funding to continue with their project. Members of the pitch panel were:

Sarah Glass, Centre for Leadership Performance

Stuart McCourt, Sellafield Ltd (Leading Change Project Sponsor Lead)

Rebecca Stamper,  Sellafield Ltd

The students produced an excellent well informed presentation. Feedback from the panel was great:

  • The students were professional, clear, confident and with an informative
  • The panel were very impressed how the students had all got involved, undertaken their roles and worked together as a team on the project, whilst learning leadership skills – a very mature and professional approach was evident across the team

The students were successful in their bid and are using the project £1500 money to firstly provide Sixth Form students with water bottles to reduce the purchase of plastic bottles in school.

They are also looking at ways to flavour water in the canteen to encourage students to refill their water bottles.

They are going to be looking at putting some money towards litter picking equipment for the school to encourage a more pollution free environment and will be continuing to look at ways to encourage more recycling within school.

The students have been invited to attend a celebration event for the project at Lakes College organised by the Centre for Leadership Performance. Well done to all of the students involved!
