Activities on World Book Day Whole School book character. Sixth Form Characters Year 7 Years 7/8 - School disco Weds March 15th from 5.30- 7.30. Tickets available from Sixth Form foyer during break, £3 each inc. food & drinks The purpose of this event is for our students to showcase their Engineering Education Scheme projects to school staff, governors, and local business and industry representatives in preparation for their upcoming Celebration of Achievement Day in Newcastle on 31 March. This event is being hosted by Mr James from the Science Department here at St Benedict’s, and we will have guest speakers from NNL and the IMechE. We very much hope you will be able to attend. In our efforts to inform you about changes in the higher education landscape, we would like to invite you and your parents to a session specifically tailored for parents/carers of students who are interested in finding out details about the process of applying to university. The session will take place on Thursday, 22nd June, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, in the school’s main hall. It will be delivered by a representative from the University of Cumbria and will cover the following topics: The session will hopefully provide you with the relevant information to enable you to support your child through the process of accessing higher education. The presentation is in addition to a UCAS assembly which was delivered to students last week and you may already be using the UCAS website. However, at this event you will also be given up to date information about Student Finance and will have the opportunity to put forward any questions that you may have. Tickets are £3.00 All proceeds go towards our Premier Rock Challenge Team We will be showcasing our outstanding exam pieces from Year 10, 12 and 13: -Alice in Underland -The Therapy Room -A Chorus Line Open Evening for Year 5 students - 2018 Admissions. Come along to our Open Evening to find out all about St Benedict's and the exciting plans we have ahead. There will be a talk from the Head Teacher, a chance to meet various teachers and subject leaders, a tour of the school & classrooms, and also a chance to chat with current students. You will also be able to see plans for the new build, Campus Whitehaven, which your children will be part of. No need to book, just arrive for 6pm where tours and talks will begin promptly. They will spend the day here in the school taking part in lessons, meeting students and teachers, and generally getting a feel for what secondary school will be like. Parents will then be invited back in the evening for a full induction. All parents/carers of Year 10 students are invited to come to a short talk about their child's GSCE's and courses that they will be studying at school. Every student will receive a booklet at the talk, with key information and guidance to support their journey through KS4. Theme: Freedom Activities: This will take place in the ISC. The evening runs from 3:45 – 5:45. There will be 5 minute appointments for parents to meet with the tutor to see how their child has settled at St Benedict’s, bring anything to the tutors attention and ask any questions they may have. Students will make appointments with their tutor for a specific time. The event will start at 5pm with a short presentation about life in the sixth form. Parents will then have the opportunity to meet with our sixth form tutors to reflect on the first couple of weeks in the sixth form. We strongly believe that the partnership between home and school is essential as we work together for your sons’ and daughters’ future, our students’ future. Your appointment with the tutor will be the first step in ensuring that the next two years of A level study will be productive and successful. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our Year 13 students who will be able to give you an insight into the demands of Post 16 education. Choosing the subjects to study at Sixth Form level is one of the most important decisions your son/daughter will ever make. This event will hopefully provide the necessary information to help in making that decision. This free event, gives participants the opportunity to become Cyber proficient, enabling them to cascade this knowledge to colleagues and the wider community. SCHOOL SKI TRIP TO SERRADA/FOLGARIA, ITALY 15th - 23rd FEBRUARY 2019 Last few places available on the above trip in February 2019. We will spend six nights in Folgaria with overnight travel on the way there and back. The trip will depart on Friday 15th February and return on Saturday 23rd February. This trip is open to all students and places will be given to students who have, and maintain, good attendance and a good record of behaviour and ATLs. National CSE Awareness Day Anyone who misses this session due to isolation will be offered a catch up session at a later date.
