Year 8 students make County Debut

Two Year 8 students from St Benedict’s School have recently made their debut appearance for the Cumbria County Cricket team.

Billy Thompson and Harrison Telford, both in Year 8, played their first match for the 2021 Under 13’s squad last month against Cleveland.

Both boys have gone through the ranks, playing for both Whitehaven and West Cumbria.

Billy Thompson said:

“I feel delighted and honoured to have been chosen for the 2021 Under 13s Cumbria County Cricket squad. I have been playing cricket for just under 2 years now and have worked hard on all aspects of the game that I love.”

“I play for Whitehaven U13’s, U15’s and the senior second team where on Saturday I open bowled and got 4 wickets. I also play for West Cumbria U13’s and now being selected for the U13s Cumbria county squad is fantastic.”

Billy’s Mam is extremely proud and commented:

“I am so proud of Billy, he is obsessed with the sport and he is constantly thinking about, talking about, watching or playing cricket, if not down at the nets, in the garden, the living room and the bedroom!”

“He has worked really hard improving his game so to see his dreams come true by playing for his county is amazing.”
