Top Performing Students Honoured at Annual Awards Ceremony

High flying sports and performing arts students from St Benedict’s Catholic High School have been honoured at a special awards ceremony which was held this week.

The annual Physical Education and Performing Arts Awards ceremony was held on Tuesday 26th June, with students attending with their parents and families to pick up their trophies and awards.

Governors and teachers from the school were also in attendance to help celebrate the students’ achievements, and honour their effort and hard work from the school year.

Ian Smith, Headteacher at St Benedict’s said:

“I am really delighted that so many of our students have excelled this year in Sport & Performing Arts. I continue to be grateful to the staff for the opportunities that students are given to enrich their learning experience.”

The ceremony showcased talented students from all year groups, who have excelled in either PE or Performing Arts subjects during the school year. Performing Arts students showcased their talents with singing performances, and former students returned to pass on their words of wisdom to the current students.

Awards handed out on the night included Performing Arts Performer of the Year and Sports Performer of the Year; Sports Team Awards; Musician of the Year; Vocalist of the Year; Dancer of the Year and various other group performance awards.

Sports Team of the Year went to the Year 7 Boys’ Team who had a fabulous season culminating with them being crowned County Champions and also Allerdale & Copeland 9-a-side Champions.

The Performing Arts Outstanding Group Performance was awarded to the Rock Challenge Team who are through to the finals of the competition with their amazing performance ‘Outbreak.’

“It was with immense pride that my colleagues and I honoured the sporting and performance talent of our students.  The evening was a wonderful occasion celebrating our students’ fantastic ability and commitment to PE and PA.”
