As part of our Activities Week programme, Mrs Bishop and a group of our students worked together to produce a news supplement that was published this week in the Whitehaven News.
The students acted as both roving reporters and editors, as well as taking photographs and generally working hard in their ‘Newsroom’ for the week.
Mrs Bishop oversaw the whole project and comments:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with a very versatile, enthusiastic and enterprising group of students who stepped up to be editors and reporters for this new project. They have all acted professionally and on their own initiative.”
“The 6th form editors/journalists were Brooke Richardson, Charlotte Hodgson, Grace Ridley and Grace Park, joined by Jasper Lithgow (who has just finished Year 13, but kindly offered his services). The journalists were Chloe Walker, Leah Stanaway, Amber Gardner, Farhan Miah and Jack Tyson.”
“I have loved their enthusiasm and ability to work independently and collaboratively, and have seen their confidence flourish. As a teacher, I lead and facilitate learning in my classroom, but am not often able to see my students work on their own initiative. They were given their brief and decided how to approach it themselves, a learning curve for my teaching practice!”
“I hope everyone enjoys reading the articles, which were all the students’ own work. My main role was coordinating the briefs they were given and proofreading the finished work – so all credit to them. They have done themselves, and the school, proud.”
