Miss Powe
Subject Leader PE/PA

I have always had a huge passion for sport and during my secondary school education at Whitehaven School I realised that I wanted to become a PE Teacher.

I studied for my A-Levels then went to Liverpool John Moores University (IM Marsh Campus) to study PE Teaching.  I gained my B.Ed. (Hons) degree in Secondary Education.  I love West Cumbria and always wanted to teach locally so that I could inspire students to participate in sport.

My sporting passions are playing hockey and netball.  I play netball in the local netball league and play hockey for Carlisle.  I also have huge interests in Rugby League, watching it at all levels, supporting Hensingham and Wigan.

Success isn’t given. It’s earned. On the track, on the field, in the gym. With blood, sweat, and the occassional tear.

Miss Murray
Teacher of PE & English

I came to St. Benedict’s as a pupil myself. My favourite subjects were PE and English, I decided that I wanted a career in sport and I always wanted to become a teacher. That being said I applied to do Sports Science and Coaching at Northumbria University. On completion of this I stayed at Northumbria for an extra year to complete my PGCE to become a PE teacher. I completed my NQT year at St. Benedict’s, however this was a maternity cover so I only stayed for one year. After teaching in many excellent schools I always wanted to come back to St.Benedict’s as I felt I worked well with the PE department and felt that it was a fantastic school to work in. I am happy to be back working full time and have enjoyed pursuing my other passion – English. I have had the opportunity to teach KS3 English and this has been another amazing opportunity provided by St. Benedict’s.

Favourite Sport/Team: My favourite sport is running and crossfit. I enjoy keeping fit and completing challenging sporting events.

Work hard in silence, let success be your noise.
