Following a vigorous application process, the new Sixth Form Student Council has been elected for the 2017-2018 term.
Students from the current Year 12 were invited to apply via letter, which was then followed up by special hustings sessions, and panel interviews.
Positions of responsibility include Head Boy and Girl, Events Committee Officers, Publicity Officer and Treasurer, with 13 members sitting on the council.
The Student Council is tasked with organising any fundraising, providing feedback on how to improve sixth form and organising events such as the summer ball.
They liaise with the School Governors, and give feedback on how the Sixth Form can be improved.
Overseeing the whole council are the positions of Head Boy & Head Girl, which have been accepted by Jasper Lithgow and Megan Smith respectively.
“I was both delighted and surprised to be chosen as Head Boy, following a gruelling application process. As Head Boy I will passionately seek to bring about development in three main areas: educationally, socially and motivationally. I feel that consistent feedback between students and teachers is vital to an effective educational environment.”
Megan is equally as pleased with her new role:
“The role of Head Girl is one which I have aspired to achieve since entering upper school in Year 10. One of my main aims is greater integration between the Sixth Form and the rest of the student body, and in addition to provide greater support for students surrounding stress, anxiety and mental health. I would also like to raise the awareness of such illnesses throughout the school as they are becoming increasingly common, yet still a taboo subject.”
