Rock Challenge team shine at Grimsby

On Saturday 29th June, 90 of our students took part in the Northern Premier Final of Rock Challenge in Grimsby. They performed their 8 minute production of ‘While there’s life, there is hope.’

This depicted the life of legendary physicist Stephen Hawking. Our fantastic students took part as performers, stage crew, hair and makeup.

Since October, the team have worked extraordinarily hard to make this year’s performance come to life. Alongside Miss Scott, our choreography team including Anna Cockbain, Izabella Sloan, Olivia Mahone, Ellie Nutt, Chloe Stones and Keenan Fowler, have given up their own time throughout the year to create key sections of the dance.

Year 11 student Sinead Nicholson took on the huge task of designing and painting the scenery for the performance alongside other students in our team. Congratulations to Sinead for creating a fantastic setting for our performance.

This year we have had a variety of volunteers from the local community including Karen Mackay, Sue Crawford, Natasha Bragg, Naomi Bragg, Mary Bragg, Jasper Lithgow, Alicia Grainger, Natasha Mynett, Katherine Brown, Will Bragg, Jenny Scott, Janice Scott, Harold Scott who have supported us either in rehearsals or with costumes, props, set, hair and makeup or transportation. We cannot thank our volunteers enough for the hours that they have dedicated to our school.

Miss Scott commented:

‘Our Rock Challenge team make me extremely proud year after year. They have shown enthusiasm and spirit right from the beginning of the audition process in October. Many of our team have not missed a single rehearsal since then, which shows the level of dedication we have amongst our students. In their final performance on Saturday, the team captured the story of Stephen Hawking with passion and emotion using teamwork and performance skill to replicate key moments in Stephen’s life. The team have shown great endeavour especially in difficult circumstances, and most importantly the have supported each other. I’m delighted that the team were awarded ‘Spirit of Rock Challenge’ because they truly deserve it.’

We’d also like to thank our sponsors this year; Doosan Babcock, ADAPT and Design Grid who have supported the construction of our set and it’s transportation with their donations.
