Progress on Campus Whitehaven project – April 2017

The project was given full planning permission and now has the full agreement of the County Council to proceed. Early enabling works have now been completed. This involved clearing the site and felling several trees. We are required to plant at least 2 new trees for each tree felled. The timer will be used and/or recycled.

The site is now fenced to allow contractors to work safely and the playing fields are no longer available for sports.

Work has begun on the drainage of the site too.

Work will being in earnest towards the end of April, and the planned opening date remains as September 2018. Foundations and steelwork should quickly appear, together with an access road from Moresby Road. We anticipate that a new sports pitch at the northwest of the site will be prepare for this summer, and the new tennis courts will be made available to the students in the Autumn.

We will invite you to a meeting next term to keep you updated, and please keep a close eye here on the website, where we will publish photographs of the progress. Exciting times!
