Top performing students from St Benedict’s Catholic High School were honoured at a special awards ceremony that was held earlier this week.
The annual Physical Education and Performing Arts Awards Evening took part on Tuesday 25th June, with students attending with their parents and families to pick up their trophies and awards.
The ceremony highlighted talented students from all year groups, who have excelled in either PE or Performing Arts subjects during the school year. Performing Arts students showcased their talents with singing performances, and former students Rachel Blaney and Gary Charlton returned to pass on their words of wisdom to the current students.
Awards handed out on the night included Performing Arts Performer of the Year and Sports Performer of the Year; Sports Team Awards; Outstanding Musician; Dancer of the Year and various other group and team performance awards.
Sports Team of the Year went to the Year 8/9 Girls’ Football Team who had a fabulous season culminating with them being crowned County Champions in April.
Athletes were also recognised for their achievements this year, which was topped off when three students were selected to represent Cumbria at the English Schools Championships. They were:
Evie Riley – selected for the Junior Girls 800m
Finlay Starkie – selected for the Junior Boys 800m
Aaron Holliday – selected for the Junior Boys Hammer
Lisa Powe, Head of PE & Performing Arts commented:
“We are so proud of Aaron, Eve and Finlay on their selection to represent Cumbria at the ESAA in Birmingham. We wish them luck and are hope that they enjoy the whole experience.”
Performing Arts Outstanding Group Performance was awarded to the Rock Challenge Team who are through to the finals of the competition with their amazing performance ‘Where there is life there is hope.’ They are also competing this weekend at the Northern Premier Finals.

“The PE and PA department are immensely proud of all our students’ achievements. Our awards evening was a fitting tribute to all their skills, talent and commitment. We look forward to continuing all our successes next year.”
