St Benedict's School Council aims to involve all pupils in making our school the best it can be.

  • There are two representatives from each tutor group who hold weekly meetings with their form.
  • All the tutor representatives then meet at year council meetings held fortnightly, from which two students represent the year group
  • All the year representatives then attend meetings twice per half-term with the chairpersons, treasurer, secretary, sixth form liaison officer and staff

Our school council was described by OFSTED as being:

'a creature of diversity and destination, voice and vision, democracy and realism.'

The school council strives to involve the entire student community, making the students active participants in developing school policy and approaches to teaching and learning.

In recent years the council has gained almost £100,000 in funding for building refurbishment and toilet facilities. It has also been instrumental in adapting policy in uniform, fundraising, student facilities, healthy eating, behavioural matters, transport and, most recently with encouragement from the head, teaching methods. The school council is well respected and is seen as being a hugely important part of school life.

The immediate points of contact for pupils are their tutor representatives; otherwise please contact any other member of the School Council. Details can be found on the School Council notice board located opposite the office block.
