Headteacher's Statement

Welcome to the St. Benedict's Catholic High School website. We hope that you will find it informative and helpful. If there is any further information or points that you wish to raise then please contact the school and we will do our best to answer your questions.

St Benedict's is a popular school and is oversubscribed every year. We believe our students and staff generate a lively, happy and successful community in which they thrive. We have worked hard to achieve this position. OFSTED declared us to be "Truly a school for children" in 1996 and in the 2000 inspection found that we were a very good school where the quality of relationships is outstanding and pupil achievements very good.

When the mission statement was produced, parents were asked in a series of meetings at their feeder primary school " What is it you expect for your children from a Catholic secondary school like St. Benedict's". This worthwhile consultation found they had four main expectations

  • a high standard of education.
  • care for the individual i.e. people matter.
  • an education that challenged some of the negative values of society.
  • an environment in which the Christian faith would be taught effectively and flourish.

We take these views very seriously and are constantly trying to improve in these four areas. There is a lot of evidence to show we are succeeding in meeting these four expectations and we are striving to build further on their achievements.

There is an overall desire within the school to see each and every one of our students unlock their gifts and talents so as to become the best people they can be despite the growing pressures and difficulties they force on their journeys through adolescence.

Above all, we want to live out the first line of our Mission Statement, which comes from St Paul's letter to the Philippians "What I want is your happiness"

If we are able to do this then we will "truly be a school for children."
