St Benedict's daily prayers resource for Tutors, Pastoral heads and the Senior Team.

All in the St Benedict's community are invited to share in and contribute to the prayer life of the school and Sixth Form centre.

Format

Each week has a specified theme and each day has a particular focus based on that theme. In order to help our community to begin its day in prayer the following simple structure is offered for tutors, pastoral leaders and the senior management team:

Start                Sign of the Cross

Theme             Introduce the theme of the week

Task                Each day a simple goal is set/suggested

Reading           A short extract/quotation from scripture or other source is given

Reflection        Use the reflection given or draw on your own experience to reflect on the theme. Creating discussion in the group may be a good development.

Prayer             Use the short prayer given, or compose your own! This may then be followed by one of the COMMON PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH (e.g. Our Father, Hail Mary, etc).

Finish              Sign of the Cross

========================================

To enhance this short prayer time you may consider finding/using the following (sometimes e.g. a song is referred to in the Reading/Quote or Reflection which you could play):

Extras             Using music (anything with relevant meaning)

Poetry

Thought for the Day

Bidding Prayers

Film/TV clips

Magazines and newspapers

Having times of silence

Meditation

Using something that is related to your subject (e.g. using prayers in other languages; labyrinth style praying (i.e. putting prayers around the room for people to find))

Improvise: prayer is building a relationship with God - there is no set way!
