A talented young student from St Benedict’s school has recently progressed in a national singing competition.
Georgia Herbert, who is currently in Year 7 at St Benedict’s, travelled to Newcastle to take part in the Open Mic UK singing competition in September.
Auditions for the Open Mic UK’s national music competitions started in August and, every year, more than 10,000 people enter, from singers and singer/songwriters to rappers and vocal groups.
Having impressed all three judges with her acapella version of ‘Feeling Good’ by Nina Simone, Georgia will now progress through to the Regional Finals, where she will sing in front of a live audience. She will travel back to Newcastle in October to sing at The Tyne Theatre & Opera House, where she will need to impress not only the judges, but also the live audience.
Georgia’s Mam, Gemma Hall is very proud of her and comments:
“Georgia has been singing with a tutor for about two years now and she has performed at a few charity events. She has also performed with her singing teacher at a couple of gigs. I find it is helping with her confidence and it is all a good experience for her.”
The Regional Finals will take place on 21st October 2018. If successful here, Georgia will progress to the Grand Final early in the New Year.
