The newly elected Sixth Form Council has met for the first time, following a vigorous application process earlier in the month.
Students from the current Year 12 were invited to apply via letter, which was then followed up by special hustings sessions, and panel interviews.
Mrs Kar, Director of Learning for Sixth Form commented:
“I am delighted that we have such a fantastic group of our students who have been successful in their applications to the council. We had lots of applications and it was very competitive, so these students have done extremely well to have been selected.”
“We are looking forward to working together to ensure that we are the best we can be in terms of our Sixth Form.”
Positions of responsibility include Head Boy and Girl, Chair, Events Committee Members & Liaison Officers.
The Student Council is in charge of organising any fundraising, providing feedback on how to improve Sixth Form liaising closely with the Governors, and organising events such as the summer ball.
Overseeing the whole council are the positions of Head Boy & Head Girl, which have been accepted by Benedict Hazzard and Izabella Sloan respectively.
“I am delighted to have received the position of Head Boy at St Benedict’s. I am looking forward to listening to the students’ views and discussing these with the Sixth Form council and the Governing Body.”
“I aim to ensure the school continues to provide positive experiences for existing and future students here at St Benedict’s.”
“I am absolutely delighted that I have been chosen as the new head girl. I can’t wait to actively improve and change different aspects within Sixth Form and the whole of lower school.”
“I am most excited about taking issues students feel strongly about and having the capability to discuss these with the Governing Body of the school, to actually make a difference.”
The whole council are now looking forward to the 2019-2020 term and working with the rest of the school.
