National Nuclear Laboratory Donate Lab Coats

Sixth Form Students from St Benedict’s have accepted a kind donation of high quality lab coats from the National Nuclear Laboratory.

NNL has a long standing relationship with St Benedict’s and other schools in the Whitehaven and Workington communities. They have been delighted to be asked to be involved in the design of new laboratories that will be at the hub of the new St Benedict’s school, as part of the Campus Whitehaven project.

NNL’s Billy Lawrie and Jonathan Hawkett have been working closely with the project and design team to ensure the school gets the best lab facilities possible.

NNL recently hosted a group of teachers from the school for a tour of the facilities in the Central Laboratory. The party was led by Headteacher Ian Smith and also included Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for STEM, Karen Kelso.

Karen Kelso, said:

“We are very grateful to NNL for the donation of these lab coats which we were absolutely delighted to receive. As well as helping to ensure that our 6th form students and their professional attire are kept safe during their Chemistry lessons, they will help to create an atmosphere in our school labs which is similar to that within a real work environment.”

Once the school’s new science labs are close to completion, NNL have been offered the opportunity to take part in a reciprocal tour of the sparkling new facilities.

The new Campus Whitehaven facilities are due to be opened in September 2018.
