Transition

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Leaving primary school and making the “big move” to secondary school for students in Year 6 is often simultaneously exciting and challenging.  The students and staff at St Benedict’s recognise that this change or transition needs to go as well as it possibly can.  To ensure that this process runs smoothly, St Benedict’s has appointed a dedicated Transition Manager called Mrs Woodcock.

Mrs Woodcock’s job is to work with pupils at primary school, their families and their teachers and support staff to get to know our potential students’ strengths and areas for development.  Mrs Woodcock will work in particular with teachers of year 6 and our primary headteacher colleagues.

Throughout the year Mrs Woodcock works with the various departments within school organising transition activities, which includes activities such as sporting events, science experiment days, modern foreign language days and master classes.

The school receives a small amount of additional money to support Year 7s who need to catch up in their learning, so it is very important that we know who these students are before they join us, and that we spend this money wisely.  Mrs Woodcock will also work very closely with our Information Advice and Guidance Co-ordinator, Mrs Kelso, to ensure that we have a clear view of how we can grow and cherish you from Day 1 at St Benedict’s.

In addition to this, Mrs Woodcock will work extremely closely with the Curriculum Planning Team, our Data & Performance Team, and our Special Needs Support teams so that each and every individual student gets off to a flying start.
