We have the pleasure of a visit this week from Alan Gillon from The Beacon Museum.
Year 8 had an artefact handling session looking at objects including a Jacob’s Ladder, A miners safety Lamp, A baby feeding bottle, carbolic soap, Miners clogs, Wooden block from Corcickle.
Mrs Muncaster said: “The students thoroughly enjoyed the session and were fully engaged in the learning.”
In Year 11 three history classes in total took part in the talk. Alan talked about The Soldiers’ World War 1 kit, which Lewis Hetherington got the chance to try on.
He talked about local hero’s from Whitehaven including Abraham Acton whose Victoria Cross for Bravery is in The Beacon Museum.
Students also had the chance to handle a Lee Enfield Rifle, and the various uniform which was worn at the time.
