The Centre for Leadership Performance based in Cockermouth is a not for profit Leadership Development company, our mission is to develop Cumbria’s Leaders for today and tomorrow. CfLP has a strong track record in delivering high quality programmes to help businesses, schools and young people connect with each other and of delivering socio economic benefits.
We will be working with Sellafield Limited and some of their nuclear supply chain partners to help design, coordinate and project manage Elements week, an exciting new work experience programme for year ten students across Copeland and Allerdale.
Elements week will be a fun interactive programme centred around a mock nuclear facility, students will be completing real hands on work tasks, working on a project but in a safe environment. Throughout the week students will have access to the tools they need and full support from employees with relevant experience from the supply chain companies involved.
By the end of the week students will:
Have a greater understanding of the work carried out at Sellafield, Europe’s most complex nuclear site
Be made aware of the range of organisations working at Sellafield and the breadth of opportunities and job roles that exist within them , experiencing all the different elements within the nuclear family
Gain experience of project management, engineering and business functions through a real work scenario
Develop skills in team work, creative thinking, problem solving, and leadership
Be confident communicating with others in a range of job roles and organisations
Benefit from the experience of working with a wide range of employees from multiple organisations and be made more aware of the different career paths and study routes.
We have been offering 6 schools each with their own dedicated week ( the schools main work experience week) a chance for 12 of their students to take part in the Elements programme which will be based at the Big Rig facility at Lakes College Whitehaven.
We now have decided to run another of these in the summer starting on 7th August at Lakes College Big Rig that will be open to any Year 10 student across Copeland and Allerdale.

The supply chain partners involved are Sellafield Ltd, Balfour Beatty, Costain, National
Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) and Jacobs. Over this week students will need to get to Lakes
College each day where they will be given their project to work on in two teams. The project
will include elements of the functions and roles within the nuclear sector and include a site
visit to NNL.
Who is this for
Rather than being attractive only to those students with engineering interests this week will
be more broad ranging so we are also looking for students who may be interested in design,
engineering, project management and business functions but also students who are unsure
of their future careers who will have the opportunity to gain first hand experience of all the
different elements and functions within the nuclear industry and ask different employers
any questions they may have about their future career options and study routes.
